Musabyimana Gregoria’s life has been marked by several significant events. Her parents’ separation occurred when her father believed that her mother would only give birth to girls. This belief influenced Musabyimana’s upbringing, instilling in her a reluctance to marry an alcoholic man due to the mistakes her father made under the influence of alcohol.
However, at the age of 19, Musabyimana found herself in a relationship with an alcoholic man who force her into being his wife when she visited. Although this relationship was short-lived, it resulted in the birth of two children, whom they had not planned for. Determined to provide for her children, Musabyimana embarked on a journey to find stability and support.
During her search, she encountered a young soldier who was a devoted member of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church. Their connection deepened, leading to marriage. Inspired by her husband’s faith, Musabyimana also embraced the teachings of the church and became a Seventh-Day Adventist Church member herself.
Tragedy struck during the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsis. Musabyimana’s husband went to great lengths to protect her, but ultimately he fled and they were separated, leaving her behind at her parents’ home in Rushashi, where she has resided ever since.
Despite enduring immense hardships, Musabyimana remained steadfast in her faith and sought solace in God. She prayed to be protected from adultery or marrying another man, as she wanted to honor her husband’s memory. Her prayers were answered, and she expressed gratitude to God for providing her with a husband who knew God and stood by her side, even in the midst of the genocide.
In the present day, Musabyimana resides in Burimba cell, Rushashi sector, Gakenke district, North Province. She is an active member of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church in the JOMA evangelical district within the North Field. Determined to share the good news with those who are unaware, she has devoted herself to serving God within her church.
Musabyimana’s story is one of resilience, faith, and the enduring strength of the human spirit in the face of adversity.
